Uses for Books given as Envoys Volumes

The international twins use the books from the ESU US Branches in a variety of ways.

Armenia, Michigan Branch
"I'm happy to inform you that we have received the books and they are the pride of our library. Thank you very much for this very special gift and we are really looking forward to receiving more within the project Books as Envoys."

Anjou, Monroe, LA Branch
American Library in Angers
"The books from the Monroe Branch form an important part of this relatively new library in Angers dedicated to American works. The librarian has created a separate section for contemporary books and annually the ESU set is displayed prominently in that section."

Latvia, St. Louis, MO Branch
The St. Louis Branch has sent books since Latvia joined the Books As Envoys program. From the book project came a travel grant for a Latvian teacher who spoke of a need for more English language teaching materials. From that came a commitment from the St. Louis Branch to send other books to Latvia. Last year the American Branch sent over 500 pounds of books to the schools in Latvia.

Mongolia, Naples, FL Branch
"Allow me to present my sincere greetings from the country of blue sky, Mongolia. Thank you for the wonderful books. We say that a book is the best gift of all. The books will be the best reading books of the English-Speaking Union of Mongolia's Resource Center." The Center will be an English language and literature resource for Ulan Baataar's large population of English language learners."

Madagascar, Richmond, VA
"ESU Madagascar would be delighted if you could send books to us. We will donate them to the English Department, University of Antananarivo, Madagascar" - Dr. Ginette Randriambeloma

Czech Republic, Palm Spring, CA Branch
"It is my intention that the books be placed in the Library of the Anglo-American College in Prague. The college was established following the Velvet Revolution of 1989 with the declared aim of providing 'a new method of approaching higher education which would blend the best of West European and North American pedagogy'. Lessons at the College are conducted in English though the vast majority of students are Czechs or Slovaks."

Sopot Poland, Boston, MA Branch
"The books are given as prizes conferred by the American Consul General for the National Public Speaking Competition (in English) run by The English-Speaking Union."
Lagos, Nigeria, Nashville, TN Branch
The books are given as a set to the school of the winning team for the annual Debating Competition.

Argentina, Portland, OR Branch
"These groups exchange both books and teachers. Malcolm Rodman of Buenos Aires writes that receiving these books is a particularly wonderful. He looks forward to a day when the ESU of Argentina can make the program reciprocal."
