The English-Speaking Union of the United States congratulates Mr. James Dessin, the 67th recipient of the ESU’s prestigious Lucy Dalbaic Luard Scholarship award. Mr. Dessin, who is a rising junior at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, wishes to use his year at a UK university studying European, African and Caribbean history, with an emphasis on the history of Haiti.
For 37 consecutive years, since the inception of the award in 1969, the Luard Scholarships enable students from United Negro College Fund institutions and Howard and Hampton universities to attend junior year at a British university of their choice. The scholarships are awarded on a merit basis.
