Dear English-Speaking Union Members:

We are delighted to report that ESU Scotland has received confirmation from Buckingham Palace that Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh , will attend the ESU World Members' Conference in Edinburgh . Prince Philip for many years has served actively as the President of the ESU of the Commonwealth and we are delighted that his participation promises ESU members from around the world the rare opportunity to meet him and talk about the ESU of today and the future.

We encourage you to register soon for the ESU World Members' Conference in Edinburgh, September 15 - 18, which marks the 90th anniversary of the foundation of the ESU worldwide. This stimulating, mission-based meeting will provide a high-value visit to a most beautiful, historical host city, with events taking place in dramatic Edinburgh venues. The Conference is your best opportunity to share in person the energy and camaraderie of ESU members from around the globe. This meeting will help chart the development of the ESU as an international organization for years to come.

To make it easier for American members to register, we have made these special arrangements with ESU Scotland:

  • You may make payment by check for a fixed fee of $660 in US dollars;
  • You may pay by credit card in pounds sterling without having to go online.

Simply print out the appropriate form: Register with Check or Register with a Credit Card. (These links open the forms in a new browser window.)

For further information or for assistance, contact Chris Broadwell at 212-818-1200 or cbroadwell@esuus.org to register by either of these methods.

  • You may also register directly online with credit card at the Conference website, www.esuworld2008.org .

We can also offer help with booking your hotel accommodations , which is done independently from Conference registration:

  • ESU Scotland has blocked hotel rooms of varying prices – currently ranging from £74 per night through £205 per night – which you may compare and book online through their website: www.esuworld2008.com .
  • Alternatively, a number of American delegates have booked rooms at theTravelodge Edinburgh Haymarket, which is currently offering a base room rate of £75 per night, with discounted breakfasts available if you order them when you book your room. You may book there online at https://www.travelodge.co.uk/find_a_hotel/hotel.php?hotel_id=353 with credit card.
