In late March, the Austin branch of the English Speaking Union (ESU) will award its bi-annual scholarship to an area drama/Theater Arts/ or English literature teacher to attend a three-week course, "Teaching Shakespeare through Performance" at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London. The program dates are July 13 – August 2, 2014.
The ESU Austin branch scholarship covers the cost of course fees, including tuition, room, and tickets for three Globe productions. In addition, the scholarship provides funds for economy airfare, airport transportation, most meals not covered by course fees and some additional miscellaneous expenses.
Teachers who apply for the ESU Austin branch scholarship must complete The Globe's application form (see attached brochure)and return it, along with all required documentation, on or before March 20th to Dr. Dan McLendon, 4822 Twin Valley Dr. Austin, TX 78731. A panel of academic judges will review completed applications and conduct personal interviews with applicants on Wednesday, March 26, beginning at 2:25 p.m. Immediately following the March 20th deadline, applicants will be notified of the time and location of the interviews.
