Phoenix Branch presents: John Meunier
member of the A.I.A. Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts
on Desert Cities/Compact Cities
At the end of his deanship of the College of Architecture and Environmental Design at Arizona State University John Meunier began the research phase of a project intended to produce a television series for KAET and National Public Television called “Desert Cities: Surviving the 21st Century”. This has involved travel to desert cities in many parts of the world, including Iran, Morocco, Tunisia, India, Egypt, Yemen, Australia, Chile and Peru. The thesis of the series is that there are important lessons to be learnt from visiting pre-industrial desert cities that are relevant to the challenge of sustainability as we contemplate the future of rapidly growing desert cities of today, such as Phoenix.
