2007 BUSS Fellow Success Story

The following article was published August 15, 2014, on the Newsroom page of the Denver Public Schools' Communications Office website.  Nick Dawkins was a BUSS fellow in 2007, served on the Denver Branch Board of Directors from 2009 to 2013, and chaired the Dr. Howard F. Beckley Writing Competition for 3 years.  What an impact he is making in the halls of education – way to go Nick!

Hamilton Middle School Shows Remarkable TCAP Gains

Principal Nick Dawkins, at left, credits strong teaching and parent engagement for growing student success.

At Hamilton Middle School in Denver, teachers began the year with a pep rally -- but it wasn't for a sports team, or for any one individual.

No, this pep rally, the balloons, cake, and rip-roaring applause, was for the success of the entire Hamilton community -- its teachers, its parents, and some remarkable students -- as well as the leadership of Principal Nick Dawkins.

Hamilton Middle School has made significant, sustained proficiency gains in all subject areas on the Transitional Colorado Assessment Program (TCAP). Students posted a cumulative Median Growth Percentile (MGP) of 188.
