Creating Community: How English in Action Empowers New Immigrants and Volunteers

For more than half a century, the English in Action conversation program has welcomed new immigrants while helping them to improve their English skills. This unique program brings together volunteers from the ESU with newcomers to the United States and in the process transforms lives.

Panelists

Hong-Wen Chen is living her dream working as an Integrative Health Coach in the international New York City. She formerly worked as a practicing oncologist and as an associate professor in Taiwan. She is thrilled to be enjoying and communicating with all the various cultures that make up NYC.




Fernando Matsubara is a Brazilian in NYC trying to figure out what is actually the American Dream. He is passionate about culture, the arts and science. He is looking for shared experiences with others in order to build a more inclusive community, a fairer society.




Ginny Donnelly - Ginny has volunteered at EiA for 2 years, but started in the field 15 years ago, with the International Center.



  

Brian Decker - worked over four decades in advertising, marketing, and digital media. He has been an EiA tutor since January 2017 and has volunteered weekly with God's Love We Deliver (providing free meals to medically homebound patients).
