On Thursday, November 15th, past and present members of the Andrew Romay New Immigrant Center (ARNIC) gathered for the sixth-annual Thanksgiving celebration at the ESU. This evening is the highlight of the year for ARNIC members, many of whom are celebrating their first Thanksgiving in the United States.

After a warm welcome by ESU Executive Director, Christopher Broadwell, two members spoke about what Thanksgiving means to them. Tuiana Mitakhinova talked about her difficult journey and gratitude to ARNIC for helping her become fluent in English. Adrian Munoz spoke about the importance of keeping your perspective during life's challenges and thanked all the teachers, staff, volunteers and others who make ARNIC possible. At the close of the program, Director of Education, Carol Losos, made a special point of recognizing the many alumni who attended the celebration.

The feast included a full Thanksgiving meal from turkey and gravy to pumpkin pie and apple cider. Guests also wrote down what they were thankful for on cards, which were posted on a "Wall of Gratitude," which will be displayed for the remainder of the season.

ARNIC is a free program that equips immigrants, refugees and asylum-seekers with the language skills, cultural knowledge and confidence to find personal and professional success in the U.S. The program is made possible by major grants from the Andrew and Marietta Romay Foundation and the Foundation to Promote Open Society as well as contributions from foundations, corporations and individual donors.
