Since 1957, more than 2,000 American high school and middle school teachers have continued their own education through summer study at prestigious centers of learning in the United Kingdom -- Shakespeare's Globe in London, Oxford University and Edinburgh University -- as ESU British University Summer School (BUSS) Scholars. BUSS teachers return revitalized and inspired to apply their new teaching strategies, knowledge and international perspective with thousands of students nationwide.
ESU BUSS fellows who attend the Teaching Shakespeare Through Performance course at Shakespeare's Globe in London have the opportunity to perform on the stage of the Globe Theatre. The University of Oxford offers a variety of English Literature courses as well as courses in Creative Writing and History, Politics and Society. The Scottish Universities' International Summer School (SUISS) program based in Edinburgh offers Literature in Twentieth-Century Britain and Creative Writing courses.
