Created in 1991 by an action of The English-Speaking
Union's National Board to honor the organization's
founder Sir Evelyn Wrench.
The award is given to individuals
who exemplify three primary interests:
* Foster ties between Britain
and America
* Cultivate international understanding
and friendship
* Promote the mastery and extended use of the English
language
Only two individuals
have received the Founders Award.
1991 - The
Right Honorable Margaret Thatcher, OM, FRS, MP
Cited for her tireless work in maintaining and
improving the special relationship between Britain
and the United States, her exceptional ability
to articulate the major issues of the day and new
eloquence, determination and vision.
1995 - Chairman Emeritus of The English-Speaking Union
of the United States, Hon. J. Sinclair Armstrong,
OBE.
