Welcome to                          the Kansas City Branch of the ESU

Dear ESU Members and Friends,

2016 was an exciting and special year for the ESU Kansas City Branch. The commemorations celebrating the 400-year legacy of William Shakespeare were so well received by members, friends of ESU and the general public. Our president in 2016, Deborah McArdle, lead the Kansas City Branch in all of our special Shakespeare 400 events and her enthusiasm set the tone for all of our programs. A well-deserved salute to Deborah for an extraordinary year as our president!

2016 became a milestone for the ESU Kansas City Branch as our branch joined all other ESU branches in the U.S. in becoming an independent Limited Liability Company (LLC) on July 1, 2016. This important legal designation has many positive benefits including insuring that all members and volunteers of our branch have significantly better legal liability protections from litigation. The LLC designation also significantly helps protect our 501(c)(3) status with the IRS.

Our membership continues to grow and we welcome our new members who joined during our new membership year which began July 1, 2016. We are always looking for new members and many come from referrals from our current members. Do you know anyone who would enjoy being a member of the ESU?

I'm also delighted to serve as president once again as part of the new slate of directors and officers who were voted in at our Annual Meeting on January 22, 2017. We have three new directors on our board: Kimberly Henderson, Bob McCoy and Becky Reynolds. This strong board  will guide us into this New Year. Congratulations to all board members!

Our upcoming schedule of ESU programs is starting to
take shape. Our 33rd Annual Shakespeare Competition will be held on February 19, 2017, and we welcome the eighteen schools who have entered this year. I want to encourage all members to come and watch the students compete in this extraordinary display of talent. It's exciting to watch the students' enthusiasm as they get on stage and recite their sonnets and monologues. Please invite your friends to this ESU Shakespeare Competition held at the Plaza Library at 2:30 pm on February 19, 2017.

Many other programs are in the planning stages. Stay in touch with the latest news on programs and events on our website:

Many thanks to our members and Friends of ESU for their continued support of the Kansas City Branch of the ESU.

Kind regards,
