ESU PROGRAMS

The English-Speaking Union encourages people of all cultures and languages to understand one another through educational, cultural and social programs. As our global community expands, these diverse activities bring people around the world together through the beauty and the power of written and spoken English.

National Shakespeare Project

Teachers and students celebrate the beauty and power of Shakespeare's works through engaging workshops, competitions and dialogues.

Scholarships and Exchanges

The ESU offers scholarships, exchange, and hosting opportunities to teachers, students and ESU Branch members.

 English in Action

Volunteer tutors help newcomers to the U.S. build self-confidence and skill in understanding and speaking the English language through one-on-one practice.

 Books Across the Sea

Every year, this program, which began after WWII, sends works that received an Ambassador Book Award to international ESUs.

Lectures and Seminars

Every year speakers of outstanding insight, talent or achievement are invited to speak at local branches or National events.
