On February 10, 2018 The English Speaking Union of the Sandhills will hold its 9th annual Shakespeare Competition. Open to the public, this features high school drama students from high schools in Moore Country. Through this competition students develop communication skills and an appreciation of the power of language and literature. Students explore the beauty of Shakespeare's language and classic themes; and bring the timeless works of Shakespeare to life and learn to express his words with understanding,, feeling, and clarity. Kyaa Torrence from Cameron, NC, a student of Judy Osborne at Union Pines High School in Cameron, placed as a semi-finalist in the 34th annual English-Speaking Union National Shakespeare Competition in New York City. Also performing, Sweet Tea - a critically acclaimed Shakespeare Troupe. This event is free and open to the public. The competition begins at 2 p.m. in the Pinehurst Village Chapel.
