Thinking big, the organizers for the 2018 Shakespeare Competition kicked-off Competition with a grand party at The Cleveland Garden Center in July. Students from across Northeast Ohio rallied to produce Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream". The young Shakespeareans moved from garden to garden to change the scenes and the audience moved with them, thereby moving deeper into the dream. The finale took place in a huge tent that took-in a garden pond. The student performers were excellent! A standing ovation displayed the enthusiasm and appreciation of everyone.
The student performers were guided by professionals from The Great Lakes Theater, which is an awesome partner in ESU's Shakespeare Competition. The student-professional partnership elevated the expectations and abilities of students before they return to school.
The annual Shakespeare Competition is a literacy enrichment program in dozens of high schools in Northeast Ohio. It lifts literature off the page and onto the stage, where students' imagination and new skills will flourish.
The ESU celebrates English as a shared language to foster global understanding and good will by providing educational and cultural opportunities for students, educators, and members.
