Taking Tea with Shakespeare

Members and guests of the ESU Kansas City Branch attended a Sunday afternoon fundraiser "Taking Tea with Shakespeare" on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at the Leawood Community Center in Leawood, KS.  This was the 8th Annual fundraiser for two chapters of the Daughters of the British Empire—The Magna Carta Chapter and the Royal Arms Chapter.

A wonderful British Afternoon Tea was served including English Cucumber Tea Sandwiches, Egg Salad Sandwiches, Country Ham Tea Sandwiches, Sausage Rolls, English Scones with Strawberry preserves, Lemon Curd, clotted cream and butter, Tea Cup Butter Cookies, Jam Tart, Scottish Shortbread.  Lemon Chiffon Cake with Chocolate Truffles was served in celebration of William Shakespeare's 450th birthday.  PG Tips English Tea was served in abundance.

A silent auction and a raffle for three gift baskets added to the fundraising activities for the DBE.

This popular annual event included dancers provided by Dyer School of Highland Dance, and performances by two actors from the Barn Players Community Theatre who performed scenes from Shakespeare's plays for the audience.

Members of the Kansas City Branch welcomed two guests: Jennifer Short, daughter of Bruce and Mary Jane Short, and Katia Silva and Marie Furlong, friends of Jeff Schnabel.
