ESU members and guests met on Sunday, January 12, 2014, for our Annual Holiday Brunch and Annual Meeting. The festive occasion was again held at the Grand Street Café.
This was a festive gathering where we reflected on a great year of ESU activities, indulged in a wonderful award-winning buffet and even celebrated with traditional British Crackers.
This Sunday Brunch has been acclaimed by food critics as one of the best in Kansas City. It included an entree from a special Brunch menu, a selection of appetizers, salads, pastries, desserts and a choice of coffee and tea.
The occasion was a convenient time to hold our Branch Annual Meeting required in our Bylaws which was the first, brief item on the agenda. At the Annual Meeting, ESU members officially elected two new members to the Kansas City Board of Directors—Larry Hamel and Dr. Mary Jane Short. We welcome Larry and Mary Jane to our board! Members also re-elected the four officers of the board to another one-year term.
The highlight of the Brunch was a special presentation by our First Place Shakespeare Competition winner last year, Wyatt McCall at left. He was a junior at Olathe Northwest High School at the time of the Competition. Wyatt described his experience winning First Place in the Kansas City Branch and his first-time visit to New York City to participate in the National Competition Finals. He brought photos he took in New York and shared with everyone at the Brunch. The entire experience for Wyatt was an exciting and eye-opening adventure for him to meet all the other high school students from around the country who were competing and the thrill of reciting his Richard III monologue on stage at Lincoln Center before a distinguished panel of judges.
