DESCRIPTION:Find out more The entire world is celebrating Sir Winston Churchill’s 150th birthday in 2024. Special events and programs are occurring around the globe to mark this historic milestone. Timothy Riley\, Director and Chief Curator of America’s National Churchill Museum (ANCM) on the campus of Westminster College in Fulton\, MO\, is hosting a special reception for this special occasion on Friday\, December 6\, 2024 at 5:00 pm. Learn more here.In addition\, ANCM has an ongoing special exhibit titled “Churchill and Blenheim Palace” which features objects from the collection of America’s National Churchill Museum and select loans from private collections. The exhibit explores Churchill’s enduring admiration for\, and relationship to Blenheim Palace\, ancestral home of the Churchill family and one of the grandest homes in England. Learn more here.The magnificent church\, St. Mary the Virgin\, Aldermanbury\, which is part of the Churchill Museum complex is currently closed to the public for renovation. However\, Mr. Riley has agreed to give our ESU group a private tour of the church during the December 6 reception. If you have never seen this wonderful example of Renaissance Classical and English Baroque architecture\, this will be an extraordinary opportunity to not only see the church inside but learn about its history from ANCM Director\, Timothy Riley. ESU is organizing a day trip to Fulton\, MO on Friday\, December 6 to give members an opportunity to participate in all three events:Special reception at 5:00 pm honoring the 150th anniversary of Winston Churchill’s birthSpecial exhibition “Churchill and Blenheim Palace” located inside ANCMPrivate tour of St. Mary the Virgin\, Aldermanbury for our ESU group hosted by Timothy Riley.The entire program (all three events listed above) should last 1 ½ to 2 hours and is free to the public. We will arrange carpooling as necessary to accommodate everyone interested in attending.
