SUMMARY:Film Screening: A Very Long Engagement
DESCRIPTION:The National World War I Museum is collaborating with Alliance Française de Kansas City with a special film screening of the 2004 award-winning film A Very Long Engagement. This is the final film from a French Film Festival hosted by Alliance Française de Kansas City. \n\n\n\nAll ESU members and Friends of ESU are invited to this special screening on Saturday\, May 9\, 2026\, at 2:00 pm. The screening will be at the National World War I Museum auditorium. Tickets are $10. Please note this film is in French with English subtitles. Rated R with a runtime of 134 minutes. Click here to learn more and get tickets. \n\n\n\nAbout the film: \n\n\n\nSet against the backdrop of World War I\, A Very Long Engagement is a sweeping\, visually stunning romantic drama starring Audrey Tautou and Gaspard Ulliel. \n\n\n\nThe film follows a young woman’s unwavering quest to uncover the truth about her fiancé\, who has gone missing at the front – blending love\, mystery\, and the harsh realities of war into a deeply moving story. \n\n\n\nThe Kansas City Branch of the English-Speaking Union has a special connection to World War I. In fact\, our very first branch president\, Lt. Colonel Marvin H. Gates\, served as a commanding officer in France during the Great War. That shared history makes A Very Long Engagement an especially meaningful film for ESU\, as it reflects on the personal stories and shared experiences and creates a natural link that brings people together across time and borders even in the hardest times. We hope you can join us on May 9.
