ESU Kansas City Branch Salutes                         #Giving Tuesday

2016 has been a remarkable year for The English-Speaking Union, Kansas City Branch. Our educational programs have reached more students, teachers, members and the general public than ever before in our 96 years here in the Kansas City area.

#Giving Tuesday, on November 29, 2016, is an easy way to support the educational programs offered by the Kansas City Branch of the ESU. Your generous support, large or small, is gratefully appreciated.

The English-Speaking Union is a leader in Shakespeare education in America. Our 33rd annual Shakespeare Competition in Kansas City will hold its Branch Finals on February 19, 2017. Through the Competition students develop communication skills and an appreciation of the power of language and literature. Nationwide, the ESU Shakespeare Competition has engaged more than 300,000 young people since its inception.

Our Teaching Shakespeare Workshop, held in June, 2016, was custom-designed for teachers to learn a new, exciting approach to teaching Shakespeare. The Workshop offered lively, hands-on practice with techniques that work with all kinds of students in all kinds of classrooms.

The ESU Kansas City Branch hosted three remarkable lecture programs in 2016: Dr. Laura Harrison, the Fulbright-Robertson Visiting Professor of British History at Westminster College, Robert Hulse, director of London's Brunel Museum and Andrea Mays, acclaimed author of The Millionaire and the Bard: Henry Folger's Obsessive Hunt for Shakespeare's First Folio.

The ESU Kansas City Branch was one of six participating partners working with the KC Public Library to bring an authentic First Folio to Kansas City as part of a nationwide tour in commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the legacy of William Shakespeare.

These and many more programs the ESU Kansas City Branch offers could not be possible without generous donors like you. We want to continue this momentum into 2017 as well as in coming years as we approach our 100th year in Kansas City in 2020.

Giving Tuesday was created to unite us all in a day of generosity, to make a difference in the world any way we choose at the start of this busy holiday season. More than 40,000 organizations in 71 countries came together to celebrate #Giving Tuesday.

Your donation, large or small, supports all of our Kansas City ESU educational programs. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and your donations are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. You will receive an email acknowledging your donation and thanking you for your kind gift to the ESU Kansas City Branch.

Please give now or on #Giving Tuesday, November 29, 2016.
