National Shakespeare Competition

The English-Speaking Union National Shakespeare Competition assists high school teachers across the country with their Shakespeare and language arts curricula. Through the competition, students are encouraged to develop their communication skills and an appreciation of the power of language and literature. 


2018 ESU San Diego Shakespeare Competition

Schools in the San Diego area serving grades 9-12 are invited to participate.

School Competition

Complete 2018 School Participation Form by November 30, 2017 to register your school

  • Once you have completed your registration, please print out the confirmation page and send along with your registration fee of $35 in a check made out to "ESU Shakespeare Competition - San Diego" to Gideon Rappaport, 3240 Huerfano Court, San Diego, CA 92117

Notify the ESU San Diego of your School Winner by completing the School Winner Entry Form by January 29, 2018

  • You will be contacted with further information should there be a semi-finals competition
  • All School Winners must complete and return the Photo Release Form by January 29, 2018

Branch Competition Semi-Finals

Semi-final competition may be held immediately preceding the Branch Competition Finals; to be announced.

3:30pm, February 5, 2018 at North Coast Repertory Theatre, 987 Lomas Santa Fe Drive, Suite D, Solana Beach, CA 92075

National Competition

The ESU San Diego Branch Winner will advance to the National Competition, April 23, 2018 (Lincoln Center Theater, New York City)
