Annual General Meeting • May 13, 2016

Our Annual General Meeting at the historic Seattle Yacht Club is always a special event so you want to save May 13, 2016, on your spring calendar. We have a special Evelyn Wrench Speaker, Paul Edmundson, Head of Research and Knowledge at the Shakespeare Birthday Trust, Stratford—Upon—Avon, England. The club always serves an excellent "Surf and Turf" dinner with delicious Banana Cream Pie for dessert.

It`s a black-tie evening, where we have the opportunity to meet our bright young scholarship recipients and enjoy the company of our good and valued English Speaking Union friends. James Kemp-Slaughter is chairing the committee, consisting of Susan Wilson and William Maschmeier, who is organizing the event.

The Last Word

Remember our Seattle ESU Shakespeare Competition is to be held at the Frye Art Museum on Sunday, March 13,2016. Lots of interest in all things Shakespeare and you are invited to attend the "kick-off event" for all the many things happening in our area. The event is FREE and the contestants as well as the hard-working committee will greatly appreciate your attendance. You will find it fun to listen to the high school contestants recite the writings of Shakespeare.

The Frye Museum is also a great place to look at venerable as well as current exhibits and perhaps have a bite at the coffee shop. Take time to look at the future events for the Museum, I've taken lots of classes there and found them well presented.

Happy Valentine's Day! Spring is just around the corner.

Help Wanted!

Fred Kleinschmidt has done a fantastic job of handling auctions that benefit our ESU Scholarship Fund. But auctions need items to auction! Please contact Fred at (206) 325-7237 or catch him at one of our receptions if you have items or services you would like to contribute. These auctions are vital to maintaining our scholarships!

Donations of services such as luncheons, dinners, cocktails gatherings always draw considerable member interest. But think "out of the box" and give thought to a special skill you might have such as transportation, handyman skills, organizational skills as well.

And then, there is always an assortment of items that take up space in your cabinets that others would consider special treasures,

WESTPORT CONDO RAFFLE TICKETS

Be the Next Lucky Winner!

I was the lucky recipient of the 2015 ESU raffle ticket prize for Jay and Suzy Wakefield's Westport Condo, which I used over Labor Day Weekend. My first and only previous trip to Westport has been 40+ years ago, so I was interested in a return visit.

The Wakefield's condo is in a building which is part of a complex a short distance out of town, just a short walk over the dunes to the water-and close to a land based lighthouse! Perfect for a couple, it contains one bedroom, a bathroom off the hall and one off the bedroom, and living/dining kitchen area. There is a small
patio, all very nice! An outdoor swimming pool is also part of the complex open during the summer months. A marvelous bicycle trail, or a drive, leads one to town, where the beach faces Gray's Harbor, rather than the ocean, a different experience. I also loved looking at the many, many boats at the marina. Fishing is a big deal at Westport.
