South Carolina in the American Revolution: Incredibly, SC had more armed conflicts and more casualties than any other colony. According to one historian, the British officers, Lt Col Banastre Tarlton and Lord Cornwallis conducted war in SC in such a way that today they would be considered war criminals. In 1780 and 1781, the battles of Kings Mountain, Cowpens and Guilford Courthouse led right up to the British surrender at Yorktown.
