Regets School Shakespeare Night – Charlottesville

Regents School’s 5th-6th Grades Evening with Shakespeare

Now three years running, in keeping with the Branch’s mission to partner with organizations engaged in similar pursuits, in this case education/Shakespeare, Branch President and First Lady, Phil and Marilyn, together with Branch VP, Bonnie DeAtley, were treated to the humbling experience of witnessing young people’s ability to memorize minutes and minutes of passages from Shakespeare. One marvels as well at their antics, exuberance, and joy they exhibit as they cavort about the stage. It is also interesting to see what just one year makes in the richness of interpretation of their roles as one progresses from 5th to 6th grade.  The younger students enacted scenes from Hamlet, The Taming of the Shrew, Macbeth, Two Gentlemen of Verona, and Romeo and Juliet. As the 6th grade is a large class, their performances of much-abridged versions (for time reasons, et. al.) of As You Like It and Twelfth Night, were undertaken by two separate casts/troupes. It is both a fun-filled and inspiring experience which more of our members should experience – at least once. Absolutely cute beyond words, so here are some pictures.
