Since 1957, the ESU has provided summer study abroad scholarships to middle and high school teachers at Oxford, Edinburgh and Shakespeare’s Globe in London.

Over 2,000 teachers have returned revitalized and inspired to share their new teaching strategies, knowledge and international perspective with over 200,000 students nationwide. The ESU Charlottesville Branches offers full Teachers Learning Abroad (TLab) Scholarships to pay for the cost of study in the UK. The courses offered are for 1-3 weeks and cost approximately $8,000 which includes tuition, private room and meals in Oxford & Edinburgh. ESU TLab Programs are offered at Oxford, Edinburgh, Shakespeare’s Globe in London and Stratford-upon-Avon each summer in July  and early August.

Application Deadline: 1/16/2026

Please note, the ESU TLab Scholarship is a 2-Tier Application process. If awarded an ESU Charlottesville Branch TLab Scholarship, you will then be instructed to complete the application of the UK program you wish to attend by March 15, 2026 and email to ESU National Headquarters. All UK applications are reviewed by the ESU and forwarded to the UK by April 1st. The UK institution will email you directly of their admission decision in mid-April.
