ESU Kansas City Branch Supports
Fine Arts Education Day at Mo State Capitol

Friends, during this period of uncertainty with the coronavirus health crisis, our members, families, friends and the public are of greatest concern. The Fine Arts Education Day program has been canceled for this year. We are sorry for this inconvenience and sudden change. The Missouri Alliance for Arts Education has committed to resuming this important arts program for Missouri schools next year.

The ESU Kansas City Branch will again be represented at the Fine Arts Education Day at the Missouri State Capitol in Jefferson City, Missouri, on Wednesday, April 1, 2020.

The purpose of Fine Arts Education Day is to highlight the importance of fine arts education in Missouri schools. This program is sponsored by the Missouri Alliance for Arts Education which is a consortium of arts education associations that represent dance, theatre, music and visual art. By joining together, these organizations in Missouri speak with a powerful and unified voice about the importance of the arts in Missouri schools.

Sir Christopher Hum, former British Ambassador to China, will present an intriguing and timely lecture in Kansas City on Wednesday, May 6, 2020. This special lecture program is in partnership with The English-Speaking Union of Kansas City and the International Relations Council. The ESU and IRC are pleased to welcome Sir Christopher Hum to his first visit to Kansas City.

ESU Celebrates 2020 British Gala

Brits International, a Kansas City-based non-profit organization, is hosting their 8th Annual British Gala KC. All ESU members and Friends of ESU are invited to attend this one-day festival of all-things-British!

The ESU Kansas City Branch will have an information table at the British Gala so be sure to stop by and say hello to our ESU volunteers!  Bring your family and friends as there is something for all ages!

A screenshot of a cell phoneDescription automatically generatedSheridan Mirador, a senior at Center High School in Kansas City, Missouri, won First Place in the Regional Finals of the English-Speaking Union's, Shakespeare Competition in Kansas City. His sponsoring teacher was Andrew Hanch, Center Theatre Teacher. This was the 36th  anniversary of the Shakespeare Competition for the ESU Kansas City Branch.

Approximately 175 students participated in preliminary competitions in Kansas City area high schools. The ESU Kansas City Branch Competition was held on February 16, 2020, at the Kansas City Public Library, Plaza Branch, Kansas City, MO. 

Seventeen school winners from the Kansas City area schools participated. Sheridan impressed the judges and captivated the audience with his performance of Romeo in a  monologue from Romeo and Juliet and his recitation of Sonnet 138. He will go on to represent ESU's Kansas City Branch as a semi-finalist at the National Shakespeare Competition in New York City on April 27, 2020.
