The finals of the 2025 ESU Kansas City Branch Shakespeare Competition will be held on February 23, 2025. This event is free and open to the public. Schools from across Kansas and western Missouri are participating in the Competition. Join us to watch talented students who have won competitions at their schools perform monologues from Shakespeare’s plays and recite Shakespeare’s sonnets. A panel of experienced theatre professionals will be judging the competition. The winner of the Kansas City Branch finals will advance to compete in the ESU national competition in New York in April 2025.
This Competition is designed to develop students’ speaking and critical-thinking skills while they explore the beauty of the language and the timeless themes in Shakespeare’s works. By preparing a monologue and sonnet for public presentation, students bring Shakespeare to life in their own way and learn to express his works with understanding, clarity and feeling.
This performance-based education program unites students in our Branch’s territory with students in other ESU Branches nationwide, on average reaching approximately 15,000 teenagers in over 800 schools and home school organizations across the United States.
