Pierre Madlangbayan Wins First Place People’s Choice Award Two Years in a Row

Pierre Beatrix Madlangbayan, a senior from Garden City High School, Garden City, Kansas, representing the ESU Kansas City Branch, won First Place in the People’s Choice Award for the second time in two years! Pierre  was a semi-finalist among 44 students nationwide who competed in the 2024 National Shakespeare Competition held at Lincoln Center in New York City, April 15, 2024.

Out of the 44 students who entered the 2024 National Shakespeare Competition’s People’s Choice Award, Pierre received the most votes from her classmates, friends, and relatives, both in Garden City, Kansas, and the Philippines for her performance of the character of Emilia from the play Othello and recited Shakespeare sonnet 71.

The People’s Choice Awards are granted to the three students who receive the most votes from classmates, friends, and relatives after watching their Shakespeare video monologue performance and sonnet recitation.

The three 2024 People’s Choice Award winners are:

  • First Place: Pierre Beatrix Madlangbayan, ESU Kansas City Branch—502 votes 
  • Second Place: Bee Wipper, ESU Savannah Branch
  • Third Place: Bradyn Prisand, ESU Los Angeles Branch

Three awards: First Place winner receives $1,000 (generously provided by the ESU Cleveland Branch); Second Place winner receives $500 from ESU National; and Third Place winner receives $250 from ESU National.

 Nearly 6,000 people from around the world voted for this year’s ESU National Shakespeare Competition’s People’s Choice Award. Everyone from the ESU Kansas City Branch congratulates Pierre on winning First Place two years in a row. Also, a big thank you to the Cleveland Branch for underwriting the People’s Choice Award first place prize.
