Daniela Melgar, Head of Drama at Mercer Island High School and teacher of the winner of the Seattle Shakespeare Competition, was chosen as the Seattle Branch’s 2025 Shakespeare Birthplace Trust (SBT) Scholar. 

Shortly after her return from Stratford-upon-Avon, she jumped into rehearsals for a “farce of Shakespearean proportions,” Stage of Fools. The plot concerns a feminist theater troupe, which, for financial reasons, must mount a production of King Lear starring an egotistical, washed-up television actor from the 1980s. Conflict and chaos ensue!

The play was  quite funny, and Seattle Branch is proud of Daniela for putting her SBT experience to such good use!
