Lifelong educator, computer scientist, swimmer, and thespian Bob Husson is recognized by the Colonial NC Branch for his leadership, service, and activities in the arts. On June 20, our ESU Branch presented him with a limited-edition Queen Elizabeth II coin for his Outstanding Leadership in ESU. The coin features a 96-ray starburst symbolizing joy and life and the EIIR cypher; the reverse side depicts the traditional floral symbols of the UK, a rose, shamrock, thistle and daffodil.

Each fall, Bob reaches out to high school educators throughout the region, encouraging students to participate in the annual ESU Shakespeare Competition. His passion for Shakespeare, combined with his enthusiasm for mentoring young performers, has helped inspire local students to discover the power of literature and public speaking.

“I don’t know what our ESU branch would do without Bob’s theatrical talents and broad knowledge of Shakespeare,” said fellow member Nancy Childs. “His dedication has been invaluable.”

Bob and his wife, Susan, have long been supporters of the Colonial NC Branch and English language learning. At his own expense, Bob accompanies the branch finalist and their guardian to New York City for the national Shakespeare Competition. For many students, the trip is their first visit to the Northeast, and Bob’s guidance, encouragement, and generosity help make the experience both memorable and meaningful.

As Branch President, Bob embodies the vision of ESU founder Sir Evelyn Wrench. Through his leadership, he has strengthened the Union’s mission of fostering international understanding, cultural curiosity, and supporting English language skills. The Colonial NC Branch is proud to honor Bob Husson for his exceptional leadership, many years of service, and lasting impact on students, members, and the community.
