Film Screening: “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”

From the greatest storyteller of all time, The Linda Hall Library presents the 1999 movie version of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This free morning showing of Shakespeare’s most romantic comedy features an all-star cast headed by Christian Bale, Michelle Pfeiffer, Kevin Kline, Calista Flockhart, Stanley Tucci, and Rupert Everett.
The film is a magical retelling of Shakespeare’s classic, set in Tuscany at the turn of the century. When two pairs of star-crossed lovers, a troop of inept amateur actors, a feuding pair of supernatural spirits and a love potion gone awry all come together in an enchanted moonlit forest, the result is an unequalled mixture of merriment and magic.
Linda Hall is presenting this free movie as part of celebrating their current exhibition, Alchemy of Knowledge: Science and Mystery from Shakespeare to A.I.
