English in Action is a program that closely identifies with the needs of the growing immigrant population in Kansas City and throughout the U.S. English in Action pairs immigrant newcomers to the United States with fluent English speakers for one-on-one conversation sessions. The program is offered to intermediate to advanced English language learners who gain fluency and confidence in conversational English. The program also gives the student and the U.S. mentor an opportunity to share cross-cultural customs in the U.S. and their own country. English in Action puts valuable and long-lasting skills directly into the hands of people who need this service. Learners are paired with a mentor with whom they can practice conversational fluency for 1-2 hours each week.
The ESU Kansas City Branch partners with the Kansas City Public Library in offering English in Action as part of the Library’s Refugee and Immigrant Services. English in Action is offered in all ten Kansas City Public Library Branches. For more information about English in Action in Kansas City, click here.
