The English-Speaking Union of the United States is a membership organization whose mission is carried out locally by the volunteer efforts of Branch members.

As an ESU member, you are contributing both financially and personally to programs that enrich the lives of students, educators, and the Eastern North Carolina community through a diverse range of local and national programs. The Colonial NC Branch organizes monthly cultural and educational programs throughout the year, such as Shakespeare performances, historical commemorations, and community events. These activities reflect the branch’s mission to promote English language and cultural exchange according to ESU’s mission. We support our local schools through grants, student scholarships, and competitions. Additionally, members expand their personal networks by being invited to cultural and social gatherings, informative speakers, author readings, and regional and national events. International travel opportunities are also available.
