Filmmaker and conservationist, Patricia Sims, talks about her journey to create the annual global awareness campaign, World Elephant Day, which she founded in 2012. Through her photography of Asian and African elephants, Patricia portrays her conservation work with elephants, her documentaries about elephants, and her recent trip to Kenya to see how the impact of World Elephant Day has helped numerous conservation organizations protect these animals for more than a decade by creating a global movement to save elephants.

About Patricia Sims
Patricia Sims is an award-winning documentary director and producer who has always kept a passionate eye on conservation. As an independent producer, Patricia has directed documentaries around the world focusing on stories that merge art, science, nature, and the interrelationships between humans and animals. She has collaborated with some of the world’s leading conservation celebrities, scientists and explorers, with a specialization in wildlife and oceanographic productions. Well-traveled in over twenty-five countries she has directed documentary features and series for Canadian and international networks, nonprofit organizations and the United Nations University. She is a Fellow International of The Explorers Club and Fellow at the Royal Canadian Geographical Society. As a dedicated conservationist and impact producer, Patricia is the Founder of World Elephant Day, the annual global awareness day and campaign that brings attention to the critical threats facing elephants. Patricia is the Founder and Executive Director of World Elephant Society, the 501(c)(3) public charity for World Elephant Day. Patricia is also the President and Producer of her production company Canazwest Pictures, based in Victoria, BC.
Cocktail
French Martini
Created in the late ’80’s in New York City, this is a fruit-forward twist on the classic martini.
1 ½-ounces vodka
½-ounce Chambord
3/4 ounces pineapple juice
A dash of lime juice
Lemon twist for garnish
Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Add vodka, Chambord and pineapple juice. Shake well. Strain into a 4-ounce martini glass and garnish with lemon twist.
